Web Site - There is currently no connection to a database. The present web site was built by our pro temp Executive Director, James Carvin, 1/31/03 and following. Pages that still need to be completed will have a brief description of what we are planning for them. There is much work to be done. A well built search engine, and forum community with web builders that offers instant translation and tracking features requires much highly skilled help and a good bit of time. Normally costs for such a project, to be competitive, would run in the tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars. We are hopeful that we will enlist IT help from a local University very soon, which will house our server and offer us lecture hall space for our off-web forums. Making the LIFT web site a student project might dramatically reduce our development costs. We could also mutually benefit from an existing grant to a University for the type of superservers we will need for bandwidth and speed that exceeds Google's.

The site you are looking at now uses a little java and mostly html. These are introductory level web programming languages. To make LIFT a reality we will need to enlist a great deal of highly skilled help. That is likely to come with a price.

Special thanks go to The Brotherhood of St. Symeon the New Theologian for allowing us to house this temporary site on their server space. Our HAND System has not yet been programmed. Until it is functioning we will keep manual track of anything donated, whether it is your time, your money, or any other resources you may have for LIFT or for LIFT's members. You will see a Babel Fish Chart at the bottom of each page. This is Systran's technology through AltaVista, not our own. Systran's site is not functioning as well as it did about a year ago. This is probably due to overload on their servers. However, occasionally it does work and will translate this site into any of the languages there are flags for on the chart, including live forums. Scroll down to see it and test it out.

We will be providing some sample pages to give you an idea of how we would like the layout of the forum pages, search pages and HAND System pages to appear over the next week or so and link to them from this page for you to see. Of particular importance is where the ads will appear. The site you are looking at is what we would refer to as "the main" site. It is where you will find information about us. The layout of these pages will be different than our search pages, which will leave more room for your searching, or our forums, which will leave more room for your discussions. As of 2/2/03, we have created a temporary forum community which is fully functional and somewhat similar to our future forum layout, at least as to the banner ads. A discussion of the forum features we will use may be found on that forum in the General Discussion Forum.

Both the search pages and the forums will also have room for a 468x60 banner ad at the top of the page where, on the present page, you see our logo. Please, go to our temporary forum community to see. The only room we will have on our main pages for member advertising is in the right and left columns and below the page. But we expect the bulk of our traffic to be on our search engine and forums.
