Dear Father,
Yesterday you reminded me again of your sufficiency. I forget sometimes
in these last days that your power is still with us. I take matters
into my own hands and forget that you are there to make the difference.
Without you I am nothing. This in fact was at the heart of St. Augustine's
argument against the heresy of Pelagius.
Father, I thank you that you forced me to look at this work again.
It seems the faith/works controversy was started so early in the
history of the church. How did we stray from the conclusions of
St. Augustine when the position on the side of the free gift of
grace had started out on the side of the catholic church? You showed
me the thread of apostasy that Paul predicted. You even brought
me to theological academia, where the apostasy has reached such
a height that your holy word is not only broken but mocked. In fact,
in these last days you have taught me much about the antichrist
and the final battle which is already taking place in the church.
You know I had fasted a long time ago that I might have insight
concerning this. You said nothing at the time to me. You have taken
all this time to speak. My mind feels so clear right now. I ask
now that you show me what to do with this insight.
Again, Lord, I thank you for all of the ways you've answered my
prayers. Your power is all I need, your care. And I walk in confidence
knowing you are still with me. I thank you for not holding my sin
against me and for allowing me to reign with you. It is the way
you are. With my eyes I could only see darkness if you hadn't provided
the light. You have made me beautifully and you have lifted me up
from death to the fulness of everything that is good in your time.
I pray that you will show this to others, especially those most
in need of your mercy.
