At the heart of my bucket list is a better world. Like any godly person, I would like to see the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth before I die - a thing which in many ways has already been fulfilled. I see it daily in my relationships with family, and in my many contacts. I also have long term and far ranging goals that I want to see fulfilled, which I have listed below. While God's will is not what we name and claim, these also are what seem to me to be related to the Kingdom of Heaven reigning here on earth. The reason I sense this is that God reveals His good will to us. I am an evangelist. What evangelists do is they live bear testimony to good news. I can be a pretty dynamic speaker when called. The word "charismatic" has been applied, but preaching is not what evangelism actually is. True evangelism is acting according to faith in the promptings of the Holy Spirit, who reveals to each one of us what we ought to do, or simply telling the truth about such action - bearing witness. Divine grace and power manifesting in our lives is what evangelism is. They can be identified as Christ's when mountains are moved, small and large. When that happens the world has good news, and the Kingdom of Heaven is in our midst. Random acts of kindness often fit into this category. But so also can long term visions, which direct our lives and become part of our purpose. The daily kingdom is moves the heart. By definition a Bucket List is what remains in the future, it is our hope. It is made clear in the groanings of our heart. What you will find on my Bucket List, is a list of long term visions I've not yet seen fulfilled. They are the components of my purpose. They are not a hodge podge of ideas belonging to a dreamer. They are a list of things I pray will be accomplished before I die.
If GhostSurfers had been funded in 2000, I believe I would now be the founder of a company as large as Google and for the rest of my life I would never have had trouble shopping for a publisher or raising funds for any of the other items on my list. Timing was obviously very important with GhostSurfers, so I took all of my personal financial resources and poured them into it, realizing that this was one item on my Bucket List I had to take care of immediately. In fact, every other item on my list would have been taken care of by GhostSurfers because it was very comprehensive in scope. The Lord's timing is also very important. I was young when I had this vision. My idea was too difficult to convey with an elevator pitch and I failed to comprehend the mentality of investors or the difficulty of attracting them. My search for angel and venture funding was unsuccessful. Fortunately, now that the story of FaceBook is out and so many are using smart phones as they shop, it should be much easier to convey what I meant back in 2000. Feeling vindicated by the movie, The Social Network, and seeing a number of successful web sites and mobile apps like Square, that are incorporating parts of what I had planned, I have decided it would be a good time to do what no other company will ever be able to do - rise from the dead, as predicted, and simply finish what was started. So at this time I have begun calling on old Ghost Surfer members to come together as a community and tell their "ghost stories." I will also relaunch only once the proper team is in place with the right funding.
Of course, many Christians are offended by the idea of ghosts. Christians are to have nothing to do with unclean spirits, and I understand these feelings. Just for those who see ghosts as unclean, I have created a special web page that will help you appreciate my thinking, and it will allow you to also express your own thoughts. Click here if that's you.
That said, I should also explain that GhostSurfers Intl. was never about telling ghost stories. It was a social networking site that offered unique incentives for "phantom shoppers" on the Internet. We rated web sites and were building a people-based search engine centering on community. The community had a variety of interests, business and personal. One of the driving forces in its business plan was memorials and genealogical research. Using a powerful system of permissions and rights based on my patent pending (filed but not paid for) flow thru technology which allowed members to build their personal web sites (similar to walls) by cloning and combining elements from other web sites, vast improvements to any current social network or memorial site or search engine bookmarking system would be the result. But that is just part of the technology's potential. I have now completed the first stage of the GhostSurfers site redevelopment plan to bring it current. It will be much easier to communicate now that various web sites proximating some phases of the old plan have been developed and proven profitable. Most importantly, the timing was never better than now to get GhostSurfers started. There are more web users than there were ten years ago. Technologies have improved for making the web more interesting. And the habit of spending on the Internet is well established. There are now 6.8 billion people on planet earth. Of these 2 billion surf the web. Of that 2 billion 86% have made purchases online. In 1998 I thought that GhostSurfers could be a first mover. It was. Now is the time that the big money is available. I see a very big ship coming in! Contact me if you'd like to see the entire vision.
Time for the development of the ghost machine is now. I am not all over the page - just a believer in a big God and Savior. The rest of my bucket list comes afterwards...
Let's Ignite Free Trade - Had such an organization as LIFT been in existence when I attempted to start GhostSurfers Intl., or any of my subsequent small business endeavors, I probably would not have failed. The mission of LIFT is to fund small businesses with twenty five employees or less through grants and loans. It is to be a non-profit organization driven by people who understand that small businesses employ 90% of the work force and drive 80% of the economy. Now lest you think that a person who claims that evangelization is his root purpose is off-track founding an organization dedicated to improving the economy, we can consider the current demise of Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral, or even closer to my own home, there is Palm Beach Community Church, being sued by PNC for defaulting on its mortgage. These are among thousands of examples of non-profits suffering right now - because of what? because of the state of the economy. Much has been said about how to get us out of the current recession. You can juggle government budgets all you want - LIFT was, is and will be the solution to world-wide prosperity. So I've added it here to my Bucket List with the practical realization that charity requires economic empowerment. Few people are more acutely aware of this than I am, as every item on my bucket list requires funding and still awaits fulfillment.
Human Availability and Needs Database System - I originally conceived of LIFT as having two sides - a capitalist side, where businesses generated money, and a philanthropist side, where people gave to other people out of their abundance, whatever possessions or skills they had. The database will match available skills or assets with needs. When the church first started, every member laid all their wealth at the feet of the apostles. (Acts 4:35). HANDS is to be like a Craigs List people can post their needs to. Those who wish to give simply scan through charity requests. If they wish the system to track their giving it will. A person can make as many charity requests as they want, but the number of requests and the number of times their needs have been met in the past is also tracked. The system does not act as a third party mediator. Those who give are able to offer their charity directly to those who show need. Or they can give to charitable organizations who also use the system. GhostSurfers would not only fund but create a platform for both LIFT and HANDS.
In 2004 I started THE GUIDE - To Help Elections Get United In Debate Electronically. I provided forums for discussion and debate for every item on the Palm Beach County ballot. I am not affiliated with any political party or candidate. I am a registered Independent. My mission was to found and host the forums in order to increase participation and interest in local elections, taking the focus off of presidential politics, on the one hand and to provide an opportunity for non-incumbants to reach an audience on the other - to give them a fair chance to get their message out, or for candidates to reply to one another's attacks. My personal goal was to include this in Niche News, which in turn would link back to me and ultimately to my testimony concerning Christ. Unfortunately, two hurricanes ocurred that summer and I couldn't get the attention of the news so it was underutilized. And I did not get it funded.
I then implemented Supermarket Green News in August, 2006 as another attempt at a first component of Niche News. Again, I wanted to be able to link back to my own life's story and raise up funds to restart Ghostsurfers Intl., which also was the motivation for a number of other endeavors. I was able to find a good sponsor to get this started with. And there would have been funding sufficient to program it, but his own company fell victim to crimes almost as treacherous as what happened to GhostSurfers. So we simply wound up struggling at the same time, as once again I was left without funding sufficient to start a business despite no small amount of work. I took SMGN off line in August, 2008 but I haven't given up on the idea of Nich News. It is just as good an idea now as it was back then. On my Bucket List is having sufficient funds to get it started, and then using it for my purpose, which is to be empowered to link the world back to the church. In the case of Niche News, this is accomplished quite simply through links back to the founder found on every page of every type of specialty news.
I am a writer. And I write with a pen name. What you are seeing on this web site probably seems like plenty, but in my "free time" I write books I will never get recognition for. Weird, eh? Should I become famous for anything I've ever done using my real name, the world will have to speculate as to whether any of the other books they have read or heard about were also written by me. This is not an effect I want. But it is necessary to use a pen name because it is imperative that I write on certain highly sensitive subjects. Most of my early work was destroyed by the hackers, who had no clue how much they were deleting when they tried to cripple GhostSurfers. High on my bucket list is getting these works finished.
The All Hours Church concept has both a practical and missionary side. On the practical side, it is cheaper for churches to share facilities. On the missionary side, a shared facility allows a church to stay open longer and have more activities. Together Everyone Achieves More. Another benefit of opening up interdenominational facilities is that it allows Christians to consider the views of other churches. This challenges people to grow together and to work together in unity, overcoming historical divisions. I am not an ecumenist. I believe there is only one truth. But I think that if anyone is going to find that truth it will only take place in a spirit of good will and cooperation. A number of historical denominations refuse to allow that any entity deserves the name "church" but their own. And this has presented a hurdle to making this idea work. I may perhaps not see every item on my Bucket List be fulfilled until the Lord returns. This would be one of them, but I still very much believe in interdenominational communication and cooperation. Let's consider Psalm 133 ...
1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!
2It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Coming down upon the beard,
Even Aaron's beard,
Coming down upon the edge of his robes.
3It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the LORD commanded the blessing--life forever.
Why the beard of Aaron? I believe this refers to what the Lord considers legitimate and right in His sight. Why the "dew of Hermon"? First, Hermon is a mountain. So it refers to a lot of oil. Second, because Hermon is at the border of Damascus. Damascus was one of the first places Christianity was preached. Later it was unseated by Muslims and became the center of the Ottoman Empire. Some believe that the Ottomon Empire will rise again in the future fulfilling the role of the beast of Revelation rather than a European Union. The strength of this argument lies in the fact that it was the Ottoman Empire that took the place of the Roman Empire historically. I find some merit in this thinking, but we will reserve our discussion of eschatology for another day. For now, let's consider the power of unity.
Occassionally in these days we find churches working together in unity. When this happens long standing demonic barriers are broken down. Many have seen it, but I also think that for whatever the churches have done, unity is still an exception. We are not yet united. Churches are generally still very competitive, isolated, and even worldly. The Lord desires much more. I believe that the failure of the churches to achieve the level of unity the Lord desires is a major stronghold of the devil and a major sign of today's apostasy, well symbolized by the occupation of Damascus not by Christians, but by the seat of the Muslim empire.
When I first married, my wife and I supported Horizons, a Christian nightclub. This was a work of unity among churches. Out of this flowed a network of Christians interested in contemporary worship. And from there flowed another work of unity among Christians, the WAY FM in Palm Beach County. WAY FM continued to expand because Christian laity are united despite denominational differences. As a result, the Gospel has now been preached outside the walls of the churches, onto the air-waves where the lost may be found. This good work has been going on for more than twenty years and has expanded to other areas. This is the type of thing that happens when there is unity. Another example of unity in action is First Care, formerly Alpha Care. It is a work of many denominations, helping women and families in crisis where there are unplanned pregnancies. If the churches remained in competition, the work would be ineffective. When the churches work together in unity, the Gospel reaches the streets.
Let me provide some exegetical wisdom. When Paul pursued the Christians where was he headed? He was headed to Damascus. He was headed towards Mount Hermon. And where did he wind up once he saw the Light of Christ? He wound up on a street called "Straight." You see the highway is straight when Christians work together in unity. This is why I understand the need for the All Hours Church. All Hours Church would take the church to the streets by making its doors open 24 hours a day. It would be a light to the nations because the nations would know us not by our competition with eachother, but by our unity as we work together simply to make the message and love of Jesus Christ available at all hours. No church alone is capable of keeping its doors open 24 hours a day, but together it can be done. Mountains can be moved where Christians dwell together in unity.
24/7 Scrolls is a library which never closes. It specializes in religious antiquities such as the Dead Sea Scrolls. In that I would be willing to keep it open at all times and open it up to people of differing viewpoints, it is a concept not too distant from All Hours Church, only it extends beyond Christian boundaries. One of the features of the All Hours Church would be a place for people to come and relax and meet with friends very casually at any time. It would also feature a library and teachings with class rooms for that as it expanded. Also, there would be computer stations so people could come in and enjoy its Internet cafe and hot spot. And it could easily turn into a center for training missionaries and starting up churches. It would also be a great inexpensive place to take your wife, date, or family any time - a great alternative to restaurants, movies and other typically very expensive entertainment.
I don't expect participation to be quite as great in a more focused program such as 24/7 Scrolls, as would be a multi-church facility but I see the need and I can envision these types of programs working in tandem. That is why I purchased PerpetualPlaza.com. The Perpetual Plaza concept has something for everybody. 24/7 Scrolls is a kind of quiet place in the midst. As a writer, I need a place to write. The subject I write about is early church history and eschatology. Usually I write at home where there are a lot of distractions. But more importantly, I need access to many works that are not available in my personal library or over the Internet. I do most of my writing while others are sleeping so that I can concentrate. And I suspect that there are many others like me. One of the works that I need quite a bit to complete not just a few of my books is an item called the DJD - Discoveries in the Judean Dessert. These are the compiled transcriptions and commentaries of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Although these were discovered over fifty years ago, they have still not been made available over the Internet. And most libraries don't possess copies, since they cost over $10,000 for the whole set. As it stands, I've got to take a two hour drive down to Miami to access them. Of course, that won't satisify my research need at 3am.
Rabbis and church pastors and writers and skeptics all need access to these same scrolls, and many others, when they prepare their sermons and literature. Anyone whose work is worth its salt will need such a facility on a regular basis if they bother to check their facts. But no matter how many people have a daily need of such resources, I know I need them. And I also knew I couldn't afford them. So I thought I might stand out by the side of the road begging for money, letting people know that if they would contribute a copy of the scrolls to me, that I would let everybody else read them too by founding a Reference Hall, and would even work to keep it open 24 hours a day, unlike the local library. Further, if I got a whole lot of contributions I would look into opening up Reference Halls in as many cities as the finances allowed. And these also would have Lecture Halls for speakers and teachers.
That was what I was thinking, anyway, until I realized that GhostSurfers could simply take care of it all. Part of the Perpetual Plaza concept is the Ghost Hour Cafe. I'd have to share the entire vision of GhostSurfers with you for you to understand how this would all work together. GhostSurfers involves hunting for clues. I will plant clues in places people will discover things. They will be hunting for treasure. As an evangelist, I'm certain you understand what treasure I would really like for people to discover.
As a researcher and a writer, being set up as an administrator and librarian for 24/7 Scrolls would suite me perfectly, but with GhostSurfers I could do even more. I'm a church history professor with a specialty in eschatology who wants to evangelize as well as write text books for seminarians so that the next generation will have qualified leaders who both live and understand the faith of the apostles. There are many others who would benefit. On my Bucket List is making a place available where people can have access to research materials whenever they need them. I need this personally so I can get my text books into the seminaries where they belong. 24/7 Scrolls was originally a means to an end for me, rather than a core item on my Bucket List, but as the vision appeared I realized how wrong it was that these materials are not available to the general public. With Ghost Hour I realize I can actually do something about it - not just making these resources available, but bringing attention to the gems that can be found in them.
The Lord said we did not seek Him, yet we found Him. We reap what we did not sow. We did not choose Him. He chose us before the world began. I find in the pearls hidden in these Scrolls a method of leading others to the light of Christ. I would love to discuss this plan with you. Please contact me so I can show you how GhostSurfers, working together with Ghost Hour Cafes, 24/7 Scrolls and the All Hours Church, can accomplish this. I don't think 24/7 Scrolls will be for the few. I think it will actually be quite well attended. Let me show you how. Contact me!
Anyone interested in evangelizing to Orthodox Christians anywhere in the world should support the Brotherhood of St. Symeon the New Theologian. In America few know about or understand what Orthodox Christianity is. Evangelizing to the Orthodox requires an intimate knowledge of the Orthodox faith. Most evangelicals view Orthodoxy as a form of Roman Catholicism. They consider the Orthodox to be unevangelized. Largely this is true.
In walking distance from the beautiful sandy shores of Destin, Florida is a little chapel used by an Orthodox Christian priest, named Father Eusebius Stephanou, who was stigmatized by Orthodox clergy for associating with ecumenism and the charismatic renewal movement. His biography, The Voice of a Priest Crying in the Wilderness, tells his story. He is the author of many books, as well. A good place to start is Sacramentalized but not Evangelized.
To what extent Orthodox Christianity ought to embrace the "renewal movement" is a fascinating question. But I should say up front that the ministry of Father Stephanou has little to do with the charismatic renewal movement. "Movements" come and go. A deeper, more apostolic faith is a constant journey and struggle. One thing many who are familiar with him would be suprised by is that Father Eusebius rejects "movements" himself. The emphasis of his conferences tends to be evangelism, prophecy, healing and repentance.
I realize that most people reading this are not Orthodox Christians, and perhaps not interested in evangelism, so this is probably of little interest. But it just so happens that over the years, as Fr. Eusebius invited Orthodox Christians from all over the world to his conferences, that he built them a guest house that sleeps up to twenty people, and a social hall for lectures and a library so they could study. This is a place that anyone can visit. What's more, now that his health is failing he has asked me to move there and help continue his ministry.
I have had no intention of succeeding him but do urge support for the ministry. I have served on his Board of Directors in the past, but I have been candid about the fact that Fr. Eusebius' interest and mine are not exactly the same. To summarize the difference, he equates evangelization of the Orthodox with the Elijah ministry of the last days. I see the last days Elijah ministry as being something much broader. Suffice it to say here that on my Bucket List is the restoration of the St. Symeon's ministry to what I believe the Lord wants it to be. My purpose is to restore the church to the apostolic faith of Jesus Christ. I would encourage Evangelicals reading this to consider making donations to this mission to "restore Christ as head of His Church," as Fr. Eusebius likes to put it by donating to this mission. I should also mention that the facilities could serve many functions and would encourage you to visit and pray about it. The video above is of me speaking at a St. Symeon Conference.
I have long wanted to host a radio program called Fathers Hearts. In it I would discuss the writings of Ireneus, Justin, Polycarp, Clement of Rome, Athenagoras, Theophilus and Ignatius of Antioch and other early church fathers. Specifically, I would like to compare their interpretation of the Gospel with that of modern Christians. It is a challenging program that is directed to Americans of all denominations. It is a way of exploring with callers and guests what the apostolic faith, the faith of the first church really was and now should be. I need funding to operate that radio program. And it is definitely on my Bucket List. Notice which church fathers I listed. These are called the "apostolic fathers." They are the earliest church fathers - dating to the first second and third century. Beyond these there is much suspicion among Evangelicals that Greek philosophy overshadowed the actual teaching of Christ. Hellenization and Romanization is believed to have set in. This is just one of many great quetions that would be explored.
Those who have followed me will also remember that I founded the Creative Realty Network and 123 Dream Home LLC, as well as Real Estate MLM.biz. All three of these utilized business applications of my clone and vary technology but I still suffered from the same technical limitations I have always had as a coder. And likewise, I did not have funding. Then, although I tried to be self funded through profits, the Real Estate crisis turned the mortgage and building business into yesterday's news. All of these would have been included in Niche News, as well. And again, they would have linked back to my testimony and books. I purchased politicalwager.com, which also has huge potential, but not because I wanted to develop it. I only have one life to live so I've sacrificed much of my interest in politics. I bought it on the cheap in order to get back ghostsurfers.com for a trade. In everything I have done, evangelism has been the motivator. I really have very little interest in Real Estate. In the absence of GhostSurfers it seemed like it might work out, but everyone knows what happened to the real estate market. So I abandoned that to, and that is why despite all these ambitions, I am currently working in retail. Gotta pay the bills.
There are a few things on my list that I've completed. My greatest achievement of all has been enjoying a great relationship with my beautiful wife. When I was praying for a wife I simply asked for one thing, that she would understand me and be able to put up with me. She's a trophy of a gal, putting up with a man who has worked more than his fair share of hours, but also supporting me and believing in me when others thought I was over the top. When GhostSurfers was hacked into and I lost my business I learned what it was like to feel invisible - like a ghost. But she knew me, believed in me, and stayed with me when I was down.
I also did complete my masters degree in theology and develop the curriculum, as a business manager, for a seminary.
In addition to the teaching materials, I am now working on my third text book since the hacking. Whether or not I get funding, I'll be writing. The question is whether I have to keep doing it all in my spare time. The Bible says that an ox should not be muzzled while it is on the threshing floor. So please permit me to shamelessly ask for patrons. I am unable to complete my books at any reasonable pace on a part-time basis. Having shared with you exactly what I hope to accomplish in my life, to the extent that I can, I pray you will feel confident that your patronage would be wise and fruitful. I sincerely thank you for taking interest!
